If there was one person in his entire life that Carlisle loved more than anything else it was Esme. He honestly couldn't imagine what all these years would have looked like if Esme hadn't been by his side and while they indeed had a rough start when he'd first changed her, things over time had worked out and Carlisle wouldn't have changed any of it. Esme was the most kind and loving woman that he'd ever had the pleasure of meeting and her unending compassion for life and her ability to love everyone in their family as her own children, only made him love her more.
And true things had been stressed and tense within the family lately but Carlisle knew that it was only temporary. Once all their ends were tied together and they were away from the prying eyes of the people on Forks, they could all relax once again. It had been a fairly long shift at the hospital, moderately active although not as busy as it had been in city. In fact Carlisle had to admit that he much preferred the small towns to the big cites. Less people to question anything about them.
Having made it back to the house as the sun was just beginning to cut through the inky blackness of the night, Carlisle paused outside the house just enjoying the serenity of the moment. He could hear the buzz from the TV and assumed that Emmett was probably watching a sports program of some sort. Naturally Bella and Edward would be at their cottage in the woods and if he recalled correctly, Alice and Jasper were off hunting for the weekend. It was a fairly empty house as of late, and Carlisle knew that bothered Esme. She enjoyed having everyone around in the house. Reaching the porch Carlisle crossed the distance fairly quickly, before reaching the front door and pulling it open.
The assault of cleaning supplies hit his nose and he couldn't help but let a small smile cross his lips at the sight of Esme leaning against the kitchen counter flipping through an interior design magazine. Making his way across the parlor, Carlisle set his briefcase down on the nearest chair before turning to face Esme. Although he'd been intending on striking up a conversation, he found it more appareling to just watch her and marvel at how lucky he was that she'd chosen him.

The house had been practically empty all day. Alice and Jasper had left for a weekend of hunting, Edward and Bella were off probably at the cottage. Rosalie was who knew and Emmett was busing himself with other things. Which left Esme to herself. The question now was what to do with her time? Spending the whole day cleaning the house from top to bottom took up most of that time. Nothing really needed cleaning but she did it anyways to pass the time. That's all life was, time. Moments, seconds, hours, days. Time and for a vampire it was unlimited.
Esme was missing her mate, her other half, her husband Carlisle. Who had been working a lot at the hospital and not home as often as she wished he could be. That was part of being one's mate. When that other person wasn't around your heart felt truly dead. Empty. Esme couldn't help it, she hated being alone. Esme just wasn't that kind of person, she loved family and closeness.
Shaking her head of the thoughts she grabbed one of her design magazines and began reading up on a few new painting tips. After all the new home they move into will probably need some work done to it. As she was half way done the magazine she felt his presence. The way her skin seemed to come alive and tingle when he was near by. Esme could smell his scent as he entered the room. Carlisle had spoken not a word, made nearly no sound but she knew he was behind her. Memorizing her page and place she closed the magazine quickly to turn and find him staring at her. A smile appeared on her heart-shaped face. Dimples appeared in her cheeks as she looked over her handsome doctor. If Esme had been human her heart would be racing and her palms would be sweaty, hard to catch a breath.
Esme fluttered to his side in less than a second looking up at him with large golden eyes. Standing on her tip toes she placed a kiss on his lips. Electricity ran through her as their skin touched. Hot and pure. After all these years together he still drove her crazy just by looking at her. Esme loved this man more than she ever thought possible.Carlisle had took her from nothing and built her back up to the person she was today. Without him, she shuddered to think. Wrapping her small arms around his waist she smiled lovingly at her husband. "Hello." she said cheerfully. "How was work dear?"

Life with Esme, it was easy. Turning had been one of the hardest things he'd ever done. Helping her through the grief of having lost her baby boy, that was perhaps the second hardest thing he'd done, but in the end they'd made it through and in doing so he'd found his soul mate. And that was something that had carried him through a lot of tough times over the years. Just knowing that Esme was there with him, loving him as much as he loved her. It pained him greatly to know that she was saddened by his absence, something that truly had just gotten away from him. Never before had work gotten him so wrapped up but it was more than just a heavy load at the hospital. He was doing all he could to assist the DA in the latest case she was working on.
Truth be told, the two of them really needed to take some time for themselves. Get away for a weekend or such. It wouldn't be as if the rest of the family couldn't take care of themselves and well Carlisle was pretty sure that if anything they might appreciate a little space from the heads of their family. At least of anything it would give the house and everyone who still resided in it a break from Esme's constant cleaning campaign.
Although he'd kept to himself the moment he'd entered the house, it would have been impossible for Esme to not know that he was home. Apart from the fact that she would be able to smell and hear his approach, they always seemed to have an idea of where the other way. Their own little intuition or whatnot. With his hands now free, Carlisle easily swept her into his embrace when she moved closer to him, easily meeting her half way for a kiss, although she still had to stretch slightly due to the difference in height between them. And as always there was a current that ran between them any and every time they touched. A chaste kiss, a bump of a shoulder. All of it spoke volume in regards to just how much they truly card for one another. He'd do anything for her, they both knew that.
Letting his hands come to rest on her back, Carlisle returned the smile dipping his head back down for a quick kiss. "Hello yourself." He retorted back, fully locked into the moment he was sharing with her. It didn't matter that the house wasn't completely empty. All that mattered was the woman in his arms. "It's better, now that I'm home."

Esme felt Carlisle's hand come to rest on her back as he held her close to him, tingles ran through her body and she felt as if she were on fire but a good kind, all this just from being near him. Esme smiled up at him, her eyes showed nothing but the fact she adored him. Knowing she could look at hundreds of men, in countless magazines and none would be as handsome as Carlsile was. That she could watch thousands of those romance movies and none would compare to the romance she had in her real life.
Carlisle was pure and simple, her everything. Carlisle saved her in more than one way. Not only giving her a second chance at life, but a second chance at love, and happiness. "Hello yourself." she smiled softly. Just enjoying the feeling of his arms around her small waist. The feel of his body against hers in their embrace. The world seemed to stand still with no one else in it. Made just for them at the moment.
"It's better, now that I'm home." Esme laughed lightly, and sighed. "My day is much better as well now that your home my love." she said gently. "Did you have any interesting cases today?" she asked curiously, Esme was always so amazed he could do what he did with such ease. Though she could withstand human blood, she was sure she couldn't work in a hospital with so much around her.
